Neither is complete alone. The rigor keeps the seeking honest; the seeking keeps the rigor pointed at something worth measuring.

Human flourishing is the proper telos of science.
Not novelty, not throughput, not the paper. The question a result has to answer eventually is whether anyone lives better because of it.

This is why the grid work matters to me as much as the simulations. A reliable, affordable, low-carbon system is an inheritance, and the decisions being made now are what they'll receive.

Lately I read reality mostly through Hermetic philosophy: the Corpus Hermeticum as the source, the Renaissance synthesis in Agrippa as the systematization, and the seven principles of the Kybalion as the working shorthand. I don't hold it as doctrine — I hold it as the model that has so far best matched what I actually experience, and I expect it to be revised.
What it buys me, practically, is a habit of looking for the same pattern at more than one scale. That is not a foreign move for someone who models mesoscale structure emerging from molecular order; it's the same instinct, given a longer history.

The body as the first instrument. Attention that won't hold in stillness will often hold in motion.
The one autonomic process open to deliberate control — the handle on state, available anywhere.
Where the other two are going. Less a technique than the condition the techniques make possible.
